Sony Xperia Z Ultra and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play editions officially available on US Play Store

Google has announced that Google Play editions of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and LG G Pad 8.3 are available for US buyers to order from Playstore. The Xperia Z Ultra is available for $650, while the G Pad is available for $350. All of the specs appear to be exactly the same as the original versions, but they're offered without the specific OEM customizations.

It's worth mentioning that the Xperia Z Ultra comes unlocked with plenty of LTE, HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE bands. Here are the specifics: it offers seven-band LTE (700, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100, 2600MHz), pentaband HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100) and quadband GSM/EDGE. For US users, this means you'll be able to stick your AT&T or T-Mobile SIM and get full coverage, not to mention you can use it in several regions overseas. Interestingly, Google and Sony have dropped the Xperia name from the Google Play edition of the Z Ultra.

The LG G Pad 8.3 comes with a Full HD display at 273ppi, it’s probably good enough for most users. A Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM ensure that the G Pad 8.3 will blaze through any task you can throw at it. You also get a 4,600 mAh battery and a relatively decent rear camera.

The strongest suit of the G Pad is probably its sleek design, which combines an aluminum backplate with a white polycarbonate. At 8.3mm in thickness and just 338 grams in weight, you get a solid, yet elegant tablet that arguably looks better than competitors in its price range. One extra benefit of picking up a G Pad 8.3 is that you get a microSD card, a feature you don’t get on a Nexus 7 or a Kindle Fire HDX.

If you want to grab any of the mentioned device, head to the Google Playstore.
