Apple released the iOS 9 update for compatible iPhones and iPads. A new jailbreaking hack offers users with improved control over features and hardware. For those who had been patiently waiting for iOS 9 jailbreak, it’s available now.

The latest hack is made by a Chinese Team called Pangu, who had been developing jailbreaking tools for quite a while now. The hack works on devices that run on iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2. These include the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s. It is also compatible with the iPad mini, iPad mini Retina, iPad mini 3, iPad 2, 3rd generation iPad,  4th generation iPad, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, 5th and 6th generation iPod touch.

What features does jailbreaking tweak bring?

The iOS 9 jailbreak tweak brings 3D Touch and Live Photos to the older iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5. Of course, this is not the actual 3D Touch as it needs new hardware with pressure-sensitive screen. However, some jailbreaking tweaks offer a workaround for missing 3D Touch display.

In the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, a forceful touch activates quick actions, pop, and peep, but with jailbreak tweak on older iPhones, these commands can be activated by swiping up on the app icon. There are three tweaks – Forcy, which handles app icons, Hapticle, which adds vibrations when these commands trigger and last is UniversalForce, which adds 3D Touch feature inside apps. As these are simple software based tricks, you should expect them to work flawlessly, but still these tweaks might give you a feel of having the new iPhones.

Live Photos is another new feature of new iPhones, it records 1.5 seconds of sound and movement, before and after clicking the photo. This is then played in motion, which can be used as a live wallpaper or as an Apple Watch face. The older iPhones get these features with a tweak called Live Photos Enabler. While some people are successfully able to use this features, some have complained that it freezes their phone can causes it to overheat.

How to jailbreak your iPhone?

Before you begin with the jailbreaking process, ensure that you take proper backup of your data. If you have updated to iOS 9.0.2 via OTA (Over-The-Air) update, do a clean restore from iTunes, else jailbreaking might fail. You can get the iOS 9.0.2 IPSW file for your Apple device from here.

Flashing IPSW file

To flash your iOS device using IPSW file, Open iTunes > Select your iPhone / iPad > Press and Hold Shift on keyboard and click on Restore in iTunes. Now select the IPSW file from the folder where you have stored it (desktop, my documents, downloads, etc) and it will do the rest. If you own a Mac, you need to press Option instead of shift.

iOS 9.0.2 jailbreaking process

To begin with, download Pangu 9 jailbreaking tool for Windows from here. (Currently not compatible with Mac)

Step 1: Head over to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone and turn it off.

Step 2: Head over to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and turn both off.

Step 3: Switch On Airplane Mode in Settings

Step 4: Connect your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to your computer and launch Pangu 9.

Step 5: Next, click on Start that appears when you run Pangu 9.

Step 6: One more window will appear, just click on ‘Already Backup” to continue.

Step 7: When the process is taking place, two apps called Pangu and WWDC will appear on your homescreen. Your device will reboot automatically, after which it will again ask you to turn on the ‘Airplane Mode’. After you turn on the mode, the process will continue.

Step 8: After a while, the screen will prompt to run Pangu app and give access to Photos app, just do as it asks.

Step 9: Once the jailbreak is completed, you can close the Pangu app and your device will reboot. If jailbreak is successful, you will see the Cydia app on the homescreen.

Caution – Jailbreaking your Apple iPhone or iPad will void its warranty. There are chances wherein your smartphone may get bricked and not function again. Thinkgadgets do not recommend jailbreaking, but if you are adventurous enough, do it at your own risk.
