HTC might be launching a new Desire smartphone. Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom says that HTC will soon launch the Desire 728 in India. While there is no timeframe, he says that the phablet will be priced at Rs 17,990.

HTC Desire 728 flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) IPS LCD display, and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Also on offer is 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB using a microSD card.

In the photography department, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel autofocus camera with BSI sensor, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera up front. Both the cameras are capable of recording 1080p videos.

The smartphone also features BoomSound stereo speakers up front, and a 2,800mAh battery that the company claims is good enough up to 21 hours or talktime and up to 485 hours on standby mode. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. On the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop wrapped under Sense UI.

Looks like HTC will have tough time selling Desire 728 as several other smartphones with way better tech specs at lower price, are currently available in the Indian market, to name a few Lenovo K3 Note, YU Yureka Plus, Xiaomi Mi 4i, Xiaomi Mi4 and recently launched OnePlus X.
