Xiaomi Announced First Made In India Smartphone - Redmi 2 Prime

Xiaomi officially launched the Redmi 2 Prime, which is its first ‘Made in India’ smartphone. It is priced at Rs 6,999 and will be available across Mi.com/in, Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal in an open sale.

Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn, which has set up a manufacturing facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. All the Redmi 2 Prime handsets sold in India will be manufactured in the country.

The Redmi 2 Prime is essentially the Redmi 2 Limited Edition, first launched in China, and more recently launched in Singapore as the Redmi 2 Enhanced. Where the Redmi 2 features 1GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage, the Redmi 2 Prime boasts 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage. The rest of the specifications though remain the same.

So you get a 4.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display with Asahi Dragontrail glass, and it is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor. The aforementioned internal storage is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card slot.

On the photography front, it features an 8-megapixel camera at the back with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel selfie camera up front. It also features a 2,200mAh battery that the company claims is good enough for 14 hours of talktime.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and on the software front, it runs on MIUI 6 based on Android KitKat.
