Sony launched the next-generation Smartband named as Smartband 2 at a price of $132 (Rs 8,650 approximately) and will go on sale in 60 countries next month. Just like its predecessor, the Smartband 2 also tracks your fitness and sleep pattern. But one big change this time around is the inclusion of a heart-rate monitor.

Sony says that this sensor measures your pulse and can gauge your fitness, mood and stress as well. All this information is stored on Sony’s Lifelog app. Furthermore, the band also features a set of LED lights to notify of calls, messages, or emails. You can also tap on the band to control your music player.
The Smartband weighs only 25 grams and features dimensions of 40.7×15.3×9.5mm. It also features a 58mAh battery, and connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.0, NFC. It is also study enough to survive the outdoors with IP68 certification, which makes it dust-proof and water-proof up to three meters for as long as three minutes.
In addition to being compatible with Sony Xperia smartphones, the band can also be connected to Android smartphones running on 4.4 KitKat and above and Apple devices running on iOS 8.2 and above.
There is currently no word on if India is one of the aforementioned 60 countries where the Smartband 2 will be launching next month. Sony’s wearable will face competition from the likes of the Runtastic Orbit, and the Fitbit Charge to name a few.
