Even though one of the major issues with Android smartphones is bloatware, we have seen this problem wither down over the years. Not all manufacturers or carriers have proven to be very effective at this, but we have seen some progress on the topic by some. Google is the most interested in making Android as appealing as possible, and today we see it working towards that regards.
As of today Google has decided to remove some of its mandatory applications from the Google Play services requirements. As you know, even though Android is free, for OEMs to be allowed to install the Google Play Store and its services, they are forced to install Google bloatware on your device. As of today you’ll notice that apps like Google Play Games, Google Play Books, Google+, and Google Newsstand are no longer part of this deal, which is a great move from Google. Obviously you’ll have to buy a new phone, or reset your current one to see this, but hey, it’s a step in the right direction.
It’s hard to know if the reason why Mountain View is doing this is just to not show off the services it hasn’t been very successful at, but changes are welcome.
