There has been numerous leaks in last few weeks about new nexus devices made by LG and Huawei, including a blurry hands-on video and specifications. However, the usp of the upcoming Nexus smartphone could be the capability of supporting LTE bands across the globe.
The smartphone has a single PCB for all bands, which would be the first for any smartphone, according to a source who has seen the Huawei Nexus smartphone. What this essentially mean is irrespective of which country you go to, you won’t have to worry about whether the smartphone supports that country’s LTE technology (FD-LTE or TD-LTE) or the frequency band.
Qualcomm has a solution called RF360 that allows device manufacturers this capability but it turns out to be expensive than supporting select LTE bands according to the country. For instance, iPhones bought in the US don’t support LTE networks in India. It isn’t clear whether Huawei is using this RF360 solution.
Google and Huawei could look at setting a new benchmark, which has been the mission of the Nexus program since the beginning. Having a global LTE smartphone could also help Google expand its Project Fi ambitions outside the US. Currently it has tied up with T-Mobile and Sprint in the US and offers its subscribers access to 4G networks from both the carriers apart from numerous free Wi-Fi hotspots.
Rumors suggest that the Huawei Nexus smartphone will feature a 5.7-inch QHD display and would run on Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor. If the chipset bit is true, we would expect the Huawei Nexus smartphone to be launched towards the end of the year, considering that’s when Qualcomm has earlier said the Snapdragon 820 would be available in commercial devices. It is also expected to feature a 21-megapixel rear camera and wireless charging.
Breaking traditions, Google is said to be launching not one but two Nexus smartphones this year. Apart from the higher-end Huawei Nexus device, Google has also tapped LG for a more affordable Nexus smartphone. It is likely to feature a 5.2-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 13.1-megapixel camera with laser focus and a 4-megapixel selfie camera. It is also expected to feature a 3,180mAh battery with wireless charging as well as NFC. It could also have a fingerprint scanner for Android Pay as well as to demonstrate new security features introduced in Android M.
