Xiaomi recently invested in a Chinese robotics startup called Ninebot. Today the company announced its first product post the investment, called the Ninebot mini. The Ninebot mini, as seen in the above image, is essentially a self-balancing scooter. This battery-powered scooter can travel at speeds up to 16km/h, and can climb inclines up to 15 degrees. Xiaomi claims that the scooter can travel up to 22km on a single charge.

The Ninebot mini is similar to a Segway, wherein one uses their legs to steer the scooter and it can do a 360 degree spin on the spot. Unlike the Segway though, Xiaomi’s Ninebot mini is quite compact. It weighs only 12.8kg, and is small enough to fit into a trunk of a car.

Xiaomi has also made the scooter smart, and it can connect to a smartphone via an app. The app acts as a speedometer, and shows traffic data or if there are any faults in the scooter. Furthermore, the app is also useful for firmware updates.

The Ninebot mini is priced at 1,999 Yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 20,375. Buyers can also buy an optional safety gear, priced at 169 Yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 1,722. Like Xiaomi’s recent smart products, the company has revealed its plans for availability in other markets.
