Apple’S OS X El Capitan Available Now As A Free Upgrade For Mac Users

Apple unveiled its latest OS X version, called El Capitan during the WWDC 2015. Apple is now releasing the update for Mac users, who can upgrade their computers to the latest version for free.

The latest OS is quite similar to last year’s Yosemite as far as the overall look and feel is concerned. Just like on iOS 9, Apple this year is focusing more on performance and the overall experience. Some of the new features being introduced include the likes of Mission Control, Spotlight Search, built-in apps, and an improved Notes app among others.

Mission control essentially arranges your open windows in a single layer, which makes searching for a particular window easy. It also lets you drag a window, as well as open two simultaneously side-by-side in split view mode. The Spotlight search window can now be resized and moved around to be placed anywhere on the desktop. It also brings in support for natural language search, so you don’t necessarily have to focus on keywords.

Safari browser too gets new features and improvements including the ability to pin a website, which always remains open and refreshes in the background. With some ads featuring videos and audios, Safari now features a speaker button that instantly mutes all the audio in the browser.

The OS also introduces a feature where you can call out your cursor. Simply shake the mouse, or move your finger a bit on the trackpad, and the cursor gets bigger to help you spot it.

Apple also says that there have been performance improvements, and El Capitan is 1.4 times faster than Yosemite when it comes to app launch times. Pixel rendering too is said to be 40 percent more efficient, courtesy of Metal graphics technology.

OS X El Capitan is a free update for Mac users. Those using Macs bought in 2009 or later can head over to the Mac App Store to download the update. Apple also says that some models introduced in 2007 and 2008 will also be compatible with the latest Mac OS.
