Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 7 beta ROM (based on Android 5.1 Lollipop) for supported devices, the refreshed firmware brings a lot of new features and improvements.
MIUI 7 ROM brings refreshed user interface, improved battery management and 30 percent faster response time along with some nifty features such as support for facial recognition in photos, Child Mode, customizable themes and support for Indian languages among others.
Some of the interesting features come in the form of Visual IVR, which lets you navigate through the IVR menu without listening to them. The ROM offers support for ten Indian languages and Xiaomi has tied up with 50 companies including ICICI bank, Citibank, India Railways, Indigo, Spicejet and Tata Sky among others. So, when you dial the customer care number, the instructions such as Press 1 for English, press 2 for Hindi and so on, will be displayed on the screen.
XXL Text is another feature where users can change the font into five different sizes, thus offering greater readability. Xiaomi has also tied up with Opera Max to offer smart Data Saving feature. This compresses the in-app and browser media, this letting you save up to 50 percent on data usage.
DND is another feature that works in conjunction with Xiaomi’s Mi Band. Once the band detects that you’ve fallen asleep, your smartphone will automatically go into DND mode. There’s also an SMS filter feature. All SMSes that you receive from numbers that are not in your contact list, gets filtered automatically. It also gives you an option to copy OTP passwords right from the notification pop-up.The feature also gives you an option to copy the OTP passwords directly from the notification pop-up on top.
How to download MIUI 7 beta ROM
The MIUI 7 beta ROM is compatible with the following smartphones – Xiaomi Redmi 2, Redmi 1S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G and the Redmi Note 4G. If you own one of these devices, here’s how to install the ROM.
Step one: Head over to MIUI 7 section on MIUI Forums
Step two: Look for your smartphone in the given list. For demonstration, we are using the Mi 4i. So we will be downloading the ROM corresponding to this Mi 4i - MIUI 7 Global ROM 5.8.22.
Step three: You’ll find two links – Fastboot and Recovery. Click on the Recovery link to download the ZIP file.
How to install MIUI 7 beta ROM
Step one: Now that you have the ROM downloaded, rename it to “update.zip” and copy the file on your phone’s internal storage in “downloaded_rom” folder.
Step two: Next, launch the “updater” app on your device and tap on “reboot to recovery mode”.
Step three: Once into recovery mode, you can use Volume +/- buttons to select up/down and Power Button to confirm. Choose the language, then ‘Install update.zip to System One” and select Yes.
Your device will begin the upgrading process. Once completed, the device will reboot and there, you have the MIUI 7 beta ROM running on your phone.
