Asus has launched the FonePad 7 tablet with dual-SIM voice calling feature, in India for Rs 12,999. Asus had unveiled the tablet at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year.
The FonePad 7 is the dual-SIM variant of the tablet which was launched at IFA in Berlin last year. The specifications remain the same, except the processor — the dual-SIM variant is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 dual-core SoC, while the single-SIM variant is powered by a 1.6GHz Clover Trail Plus Z2560 dual-core processor.
The tablet features a 7-inch IPS (1280×800 pixels) display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card and a 3,950mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough for 28 hours of talk time.
On the photography front, the tablet gets a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel camera at the front. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS support, and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean wrapped under Asus’s own UI.
At this price point and with voice calling capabilities, the FonePad 7 dual-SIM will be up against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and the Lenovo Idea Tab A3000. The Galaxy Tab 3 has similar specifications as the FonePad 7, albeit with a lower resolution display (1024×600 pixels) and lower resolution cameras (3-megapixels/1.3-megapixels). That said, it has a slightly bigger battery (4,000mAh). The Idea Tab A3000, on the other hand, has a quad-core processor and 16GB of expandable internal storage, but a VGA front camera and a smaller battery (3,500mAh). The FonePad 7 though has dual-SIM capabilities, which neither of the other two have.
