Xiaomi has unveiled the MIUI 7 in China today. The new firmware based on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system brings in interface design improvements, new themes, facial recognition support in photos and a unique roaming app.

Some of the interesting features that come with MIUI 7 is face recognition in the Gallery. The Photos app sorts out pictures in the People Tab by recognizing faces. For example, all pictures of your pet dog will automatically be sorted into one folder in the People tab in MIUI 7. There’s also a dedicated section in the Photos app for pets.
MIUI 7 brings a new Baby Photos app that’s shareable with certain family members. A special Kids Mode has also been introduced which enables children to use the device, and gives users more control on what kids see on the smartphone.

There are a bunch of new themes specific to male and females. There are four thematic versions of MIUI 7, including a pink-inspired ‘Goddess’ mode for women that makes it easier to apply themes combined with wallpapers and screensavers.
Xiaomi has also introduced a unique MI Roaming app, which is something like a virtual SIM card when you travel. It allows users to buy a data package through Xiaomi for when they travel abroad, meaning you won’t have to switch SIMs.
Lastly, the new skin brings in the capability to set videos for contacts. So when a person calls, the selected video starts playing on your homescreen instead of the normal ringtone.
The MIUI 7 will be rolled out via OTA to Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Redmi, and Redmi Note users from tomorrow. It is important to note that this update is only for China users. The company is set to launch the global ROM in New Delhi on August 19, where it will surely reveal a timeline for Xiaomi smartphone users in India.
