Oppo has launched mid-range Android smartphone R1 in India at Rs 26,990 and is available on e-commerce sites and retail stores. The R1 sports 5" IPS HD (1280×720 pixels) display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. Also included, is 16GB of internal storage, but sans a microSD card slot to expand the memory.
The device also features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, both powered by the company’s PI technology. This technology includes a Fujitsu ISP independent image-processing chip, which the company says “produces more natural white balance and more precise auto focus”. There is also a 2,410mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Oppo launched its Indian operations in January, and its current portfolio includes the Oppo Find 5, the Oppo Neo, and the Oppo N1. As a part of its expansion plans in the country, the Chinese company will also be launching the Oppo Find 7 sometime in mid-2014.
At this price point, the R1 will be up against the likes of Sony Xperia Z, and the Gionee Elife E6. The Xperia Z is slightly more expensive than the R1, but for the extra buck you get a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, a better resolution rear camera (13-megapixel), and 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded using a microSD card.
The Elife E6 is cheaper at Rs 21,200, but offers a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, better primary camera (12-megapixel), and more internal storage (32GB).
