Apple Watch is available now in India starting today. Apple Watch prices start at Rs 30,900. The 38 mm variant of the Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch edition start at Rs 30,900, Rs 48,900 and Rs 8,20,000 respectively. The 42 mm variant of Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch edition start at Rs 34,900, Rs 52,900 and Rs 9,90,000 respectively.
Availability of the smartwatch in India comes shortly after research firm Canalys claimed Apple has shipped nearly 7 million smartwatches since launch. According to Canalys, no other smartwatch brand including the likes of Samsung has managed more than 300,000 sales in one quarter. Pebble’s Time Steel watch that was launched in July has shipped about 200,000 units in first quarter.
Apple has of late increased focus on the emerging markets such as India. Among a few steps it has taken to further its base is reducing the time gap between the US and India launch. It included India in its global launch of the Apple Music while the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launched shortly after the US launch.
However, in case of the Apple Watch, the company has taken its time. This could be possibly because the wearable category in India is still in infancy and the Apple Watch are priced relatively higher. However, if well received in India, it would be a win-win situation for Apple.
