During the MWC in Barcelona, Microsoft announced a host of new hardware partners, including the likes of Karbonn Mobile, who would sell devices running on Windows Phone. The Times of India now reports that the Indian smartphone vendor will launch its Windows Phone device sometime in June, but it will be a dual-OS smartphone running on Android and Windows Phone.
“Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows phones in about three months,” Karbonn’s CEO Sudhir Hasija told ToI. There is currently no word on the name, specifications or what price range Karbonn is targeting with its new range of smartphones.
According to the latest IDC numbers, Karbonn is the third largest mobile company in India, behind Samsung and Micromax with a market share of 10 percent.
